At a recent Learn2 Climb event, participants climbed a course installed at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park. The course features rock faces overlooking the east fork of the Black River, with a perspective you can only experience while climbing.

Do you want to go on a new adventure or learn a new outdoor skill but don’t know where to begin? Missouri State Parks offers a wide variety of outdoor skill programs at individual parks and sites throughout the year.
One of our most popular programs is the Learn2 series, which includes Learn2 Aim, Learn2 Paddle and Learn2 Climb. Learn2 Aim delivers joint instruction in archery and the ancient method of spear throwing using an atlatl. Learn2 Paddle provides basic and intermediate kayaking instruction to students. If you already have a bit of skill with a paddle, an advanced river option is also available.
Learn2 Climb, the newest Learn2 course, was made possible by a generous grant from the Bronco Wild Fund, which works to connect people to the outdoors. Learn2 Climb teaches the basics of outdoor rock climbing on a course installed along the east fork of the Black River at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park.
Certified instructors strive to create a no-judgement environment while providing individualized assistance during classes. Missouri State Parks supplies all of the equipment needed for the Learn2 series courses, so all a participant needs to do is be prepared to learn, jump in and have fun!
For information about the events and outdoor skills programs, visit our online events calendar on the Missouri State Parks website or our Learn2 webpage.
